A practical list of UK and European-relevant tools Tony Wood uses or has meaningfully evaluated for accounting, publishing, infrastructure, personal knowledge, and software engineering, with their MCP or API access made clear for agents.

What this means

"UK and European" describes a meaningful operating connection. It is not a blanket claim that every service, subprocesser, backup, or data flow stays in the UK or EU.

FreeAgent publishes an OAuth-based REST API. No official FreeAgent MCP server is currently documented, so an agent needs a separately governed API integration.

What I use it for
Running day-to-day company accounting, capturing costs, issuing invoices, and reviewing the financial position.
Who it may suit
UK small companies, consultants, and operators who want accounting close to daily work.
UK or European relevance
FreeAgent is designed around UK accounting and tax. Its published security information says customer information is held in data centres in Ireland.
Important limit
The referral scheme depends on account eligibility. Accounts supplied through an accountant may not qualify, and bank-funded accounts may not earn the referrer a discount.

Official open-source MCP server

Xero publishes an open-source MCP server for local, STDIO-compatible agent clients. Access still depends on OAuth permissions and the connected Xero organisation.

What I use it for
Working with accounting and finance data in UK business contexts where an agent needs a documented, permissioned connection route.
Who it may suit
UK businesses, accountants, and finance teams already using Xero who want agents to work with authorised accounting data.
UK or European relevance
Xero is not a UK- or EU-owned company. It is included because it provides a UK product and is widely relevant to UK accounting workflows.
Important limit
An official MCP server is not automatic authority. Operators must review the server, OAuth scopes, client configuration, write-capable tools, and the connected organisation before use.

Official remote MCP server

MailerLite provides an OAuth-protected remote MCP server for subscriber, group, campaign, automation, and account tools. Connecting it can grant an agent access to manage MailerLite data.

What I use it for
Publishing briefings and newsletters without turning the surrounding website into a complex marketing platform.
Who it may suit
Independent publishers, small organisations, and teams that need clear newsletter workflows.
UK or European relevance
MailerLite's current data-processing information identifies data centres in the Netherlands and Germany and documents its GDPR and international-transfer arrangements.
Important limit
European data-centre hosting does not mean every corporate or subprocesser relationship is EU-only. Buyers should review the current DPA for their own requirements.

Agent access

MCP announced, not yet generally available

Hostinger describes MCP support for Agentic Mail, but its current product information says full API and MCP access is coming soon. Do not depend on it until availability is confirmed.

What I use it for
Running public websites and VPS-hosted services where region, cost, and operational access need to stay visible.
Who it may suit
Small organisations and builders who need practical web hosting or VPS infrastructure.
UK or European relevance
Hostinger offers European and UK infrastructure locations, but the actual data location depends on the service and region selected.
Important limit
A European provider or selectable European region is not an EU-only residency guarantee. Confirm the exact service, backups, subprocessers, and contract before placing regulated data.

Official read-only MCP server

Recall provides an OAuth-protected remote MCP server that lets an authorised assistant search cards, read content, filter metadata, and explore the connected knowledge base. The current MCP tools are read-only.

What I use it for
Capturing useful source material, building connections between it, and making deliberately selected knowledge easier to find again on web, mobile, or through an agent.
Who it may suit
Researchers, writers, operators, and lifelong learners who want one searchable personal library built from the material they choose to save.
UK or European relevance
Recall says its team is headquartered in Amsterdam. It describes the product as local-first and says backup and cross-device sync data is stored on Google Cloud in Belgium.
Important limit
Connecting the MCP allows the chosen assistant to search and read the authorised Recall knowledge base. Review what has been saved, the requested OAuth scope, the assistant's own data handling, and the account boundary before connecting it.

Apply through the official Recall Affiliate Program. After approval, add only the unique tracked URL supplied through the programme; until then, keep the ordinary Recall link.

UK or European relevance
Cosine is a London-based AI engineering company working on UK sovereign-AI capability and offering managed, dedicated, private, on-premises, and air-gapped deployment paths.
Important limit
The ordinary cloud service should not be described as UK- or EU-resident without specific contractual evidence for the selected deployment.
